Prostate Surgery Update – March 4th

Well, surgery apparently went well on the 4th! I spent the night in the hospital and was released the next afternoon. Huge shoutout to my home nurse—she’s the best ever—and we’re doing our best to laugh our way through this recovery without causing any extra pain…LOL.
The catheter I have to manage for 7 days is, by far, the worst part of this whole process. I have six small incisions in my abdomen and one larger incision where the prostate and node were removed. On top of that, I’ve got a little congestion in my chest, which has made coughing a bit tough. We did have one catheter issue that gave us a scary moment at first, but we managed.
I’ve been walking around the house a bit to help relieve some of the gas that was put in during surgery—apparently, that’s done to help move things around in there, and I honestly had no idea!
After all the excitement today, I decided it was time to upgrade from Tylenol and Advil and took my first “real” pain pill. Now it’s time to rest. I’m not used to sleeping on my back, so fingers crossed for a few hours of solid nighttime sleep.
Finally, a huge thank you to my high school buddy Brad for sending an amazing gift card for delivery food, and to our wonderful friends Amy & Trey for the awesome soup gift box—it was absolutely amazing. We really are blessed to have such incredible friends in our lives.
